I could not take a picture of Clinique Mild Clarifying Lotion for the life of me. For the past week, I've been trying and trying, but all I get is an acid green blur, when in reality, it's a light sea-foam green in a large 6.7 ounce bottle. I also wanted to take a swatch of it, because the texture is pretty interesting, but I couldn't get that to show up in a picture either. So yes, this picture is from Sephora.com.
Clinique has really outdone itself with this oil-free toner. Mild Clarifying Lotion is made specifically with sensitive skin in mind, because Clinque was thoughtful enough to leave out the alcohol and other harsh ingredients. In fact, it's so perfect for sensitive skin that it can even be used to remove non-waterproof eye makeup, with no stinging. This one bottle does so many things:
- removes any traces of makeup left after cleansing
- keeps my skin fairly matte throughout the day
- adds moisture to my dry areas
- has salicylic acid to fight acne and gently exfoliate
- dramatically reduces how sensitive my skin feels
These are the observations I've seen from using this morning and night for the last two weeks. It's a skincare workhorse. I just wipe a tiny amount on my skin after cleanser, before moisturizer, and not 5 minutes later, my skin looks and feels 10 times better. I've also noticed that since I started using this, my skin is much less dry with fewer breakouts, and my makeup goes on smoother.
I feel compelled to try to describe the texture of this: It's unusual for a toner. Depending on your point of view, it's a thin gel, or a very thick liquid. I think the texture is part of why it works so well, but there's a small issue with application. It has to be applied with a cotton round. About four days ago, I ran out of cotton rounds and assumed I could use a cotton ball to apply it. Nope. The gel-texture allows the cotton ball to soak up all of the product, and none of it ever reaches my face. So if you're planning on using this, stock up on cotton rounds.
No, it's certainly not cheap when you consider that you could buy Clean & Clear Deep Cleaning Astringent for $4. But for all you ladies with sensitive skin like moi, it's a great investment for your skin, especially with all the benefits it has.
Performance Grade: A+
Hope all is going well on your end of the blogsphere!
